Long but worthwhile trek
by Fergalh  8 May 2024
After a complicated ferry crossing from Troon we arrived late in the Port of Brodick. Headed along Fisherman's way for two km which led to the Wineport pub which is the start of the Goatfell climb. Track is easy to follow if steep in parts and initially winds its way through the forest. Eventually just after the forest you cross a bridge and from here a gentler slope to a junction for the coastal path around 600 metres. From here the climb is steep and veers to the left before doubling back to a flattish summit area with a viewing beacon and trig pillar. Normally there is great views but we had to settle for some inversion clouds due to the clagg. Distance is 11.5 Km there and back from Wineport and another two km to ferry port Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/B1472/comment/24195/
