There are cairns near summit. The name is associated with a place called Brú Clochair or Cúil Clochair [Philip O'Connell, The Topography of the Loch Ramor Region, Breifne iii, no. 10, 231-64 and iii, no. 12, 443-8].   Bruse Hill is the 1263th highest place in Ireland.
