6km NW of Lanesborough. The name has nothing to do with bán, 'white'. Bána is the modern form of Badbgna, name of a Fir Bolg chieftain of this area. In clear conditions it is possible to see as far as Crough Patrick. There is also a fine view of the many islands on Lough Ree. Has been called Aghalard.   Slieve Bawn is the 1248th highest place in Ireland. Slieve Bawn is the second highest point in county Roscommon.
