This name is pronounced 'yokawn'. It is of obscure origin, but may refer to a pole or mast on the summit. It may have a parallel in Gokane Point, a headland south of Skibbereen. Feaghmaan East and West are townlands on the slopes of Geokaun.   Geokaun is the 1243th highest place in Ireland.

The summit is the other side of the gate

Great views to be had from the car park here, and for little effort too. But beware ! The spot height is just on the other side of the locked gates of the mast compound. Luckily these are not high and can be crossed to reach the summit ( only a metre or 2 inside ), giving a polite wave to the cctv of course or ask the nice girl in the cabin at the entrance.
