Bedrock type: Felsic volcanics, (Ballymoyle Formation)

James Fraser refers in A Hand Book for Travellers in Ireland (1854) to: the hills of Collon and Barranisky, which rise respectively 782 and 789 feet above the sea. The height is incorrect for Barranisky, it being 923 feet high, but the geographical location is precise enough to be certain of the identification. Has been called Ballymoyle.   Barranisky is the 1211th highest place in Ireland.

Visited 06.09.2013. Generally the contributions on the site will allow you to get to the top, but to make it even easier (!), I tracked my visit - track 2307 has the route.

The route is clear enough, but a couple of points to emphasise:
1. At the cottage T25533 79336 starA - the entrance to the gorse track is DIRECTLY opposite the gable of the house - the gorse is pretty high here, but go through you must.
2. The track stops after 300m - stops Dead - drop to your hands and knees and crawl through, tending right.
3. People have been here before!!!! The route is not easy but it is generally obvious - follow it - half hands and knees - half crouch.
4. The trig is nestled in gorse and can only be approached from your direction - the fact that it is can be reached at all is only because others have been there. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/972/comment/15176/
