Move along folks, there's nothing to see here.
by madfrankie 6 Oct 2011
When you do a walk in a grey mire, there's very little to report in terms of describing the views or relevant features of the locale. I did something similar to Sandman, starting at the car park NE of Lough Easky, and headed anti-clockwise around the lake.
The summit is fairly featureless, except for Sandman's stone, though I did glimpse the terrain to the west - a forbidding tract of moorland and forestry. Probably best not to come up that way! Descended easliy NE to the edge of Lough Easky (aesthetically the most pleasing part of the walk) to pick up the track that leads east to the tarred road. Another One Bites The Dust

The 2nd summit of the day not visited by Mountain Views - Started at A (G44917 22329) (Sligo Way) beside Easkey Lough - Walk along shore line till you reach the point that the Sligo Way turns left at B (G43754 22281) - head straight up to C (G42854 22584) (328 on map) or continue to old building for easier access to ridge - From pt 328 head directly to summit at D (G42629 21944) - Placed the first stone as summit marker - Fantastic views over bay to Donegal coast. Lough Easky Loop
by gerrym 16 Jun 2012
A long lonely road into the heart of the Ox Mtns brought the beautiful scene of Easky Lough nestling amongst the surrounding hills.

A small carpark at the northern end of the lough was the starting point for the National Looped Walk. This circles the lough and provides access to Meenamaddo. Stiles and bridges aid travel on what would normally be very wet ground!

At deserted farm buildings (E (G436 228)) cross stile and leave looped walk to head for the hill ahead. Views open out as gain height over the stunningly beautiful lough and boulder strewn hillsides rising to the main Ox plateau above 500m. Further north Slieve League was in view. A lone fisherman stood in the waters of the lough as a plane made runs low over the lough to Strandhill Airport (this was some sight as the aircraft rose steeply to clear the hilltops – a bit of a Nepalese feel!)

Reach a fenceline running across the hilltop to the secondary top (326m) which brings views south west to the iconic hills of Slieve Carr, Nephin and many others in the Nephin Begs.
Follow fence downhill and cross as it turns sharply left, reaching the top of 330m in under one hour. Exploring a little further along brings some erratic boulders. Views already described maintain their clarity.

Drop directly NE past a large erratic for the edge of the forest boundary. Follow edge of forest downhill to reach the boardwalk of the Sligo Way which is followed to the shore of Lough Easky. The National Looped Walk can now be continued to complete a circle of the Lough.

A fantastic wee walk of 2.5 hours including lunch. The National Looped Walk on its own would make a cracking walk in itself! Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/923/comment/6857/

Should have worn the wellies!
by paddyhillsbagger 4 Mar 2012
Well madfrankie, I'd just like to report the views on Meenamaddo were worth all the boggy and wet walk to the top. I followed sandman's route but took the Sligo Way to the edge of the forest to guide me to the top and it's 'cairn'. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/923/comment/6708/
