Well worth the effort; this hill is off the beaten track but has great views of the usual suspects in Connemara - the Bens & Turks, from an unusual angle. Going off road at Naughton (L99296 40127), heading SE to the summit of Lackadunna (317m). Several false tops over good ground on the way. The trig point (in great condition) at Knocknasilloge (346m) is a further 850m to the NE over boggy ground. Rounded off the morning by doing several more tops to the NW, coming back to the road at Gl'Tras L (L99675 40297). Something to watch out for on top - an immense standing stone (glacial erratic). An honour to be the first to log this one for Mountain Views! Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/903/comment/6203/

Trig points were in operation for a period of circa 20 years and depended on line of sight so that is why at their locations the view is quite good, except in circumstances where, after their construction, forestry was planted or man-made objects appeared. The trig adjacent to this summit is no exception and has fine views. Parking at Gl'Tras L (L99675 40297); follow the track uphill through an old farm yard where access can be gained to the open hillside via a pedestrian gate. Access to this hill is through a farm at Gl'Tras L (L99675 40297). I was lucky enough to meet the farmer and his family just as I parked my car. I asked for permission and the farmer happily walked me through his sheds and pointed me in the right direction. Once through the gate at A (L99877 40241), head South for Lackadunna for some fine views. From here Knocknasilloge is about a kilometre away to the East. It's a relatively short walk by Connemara standards but the views are up there with the big boys of the region. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/903/comment/20102/
