A sure and direct way to the top.
Short Summary created by Harry Goodman  20 Aug 2013
Park off road at B8893202045 starA. Walk NE along the road for about 100 metres to a gate on the left. Cross over and follow a fence, on the right side of the field, going steeply uphill and crossing over another fence on the way up.. At B8866602379 starB, where the fence turns sharply right, if conditions are clear, note a large prominent dome shaped raised ridge to the NW. The top of the hill lies on this 1.2km to along what is at first a relatively flat broad ridge of marshy ground but then rises more steeply over peat hags and some rocks to reach the top. The high point B8787903263 starC lies amid a mixture of peat and rock with a small pond nearby. Croaghleheen is a twin topped hill with the second but lower top due N from the summit. Return by way of ascent, a 3.8km round trip. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/859/comment/5618/

Worth going to have a look !
by Harry Goodman  20 Aug 2013
As only two members had logged this hill as climbed and no comments had been made about it, I decided, on Wed 14 August 2013, to go and check it out. I took the R252 from Finntown up through the Carbat Gap to a minor road on the left at B904036 starD which I then followed SW to B8893202045 starA where I parked at a pull in place on the right side. I then walked back NE along the road for about 100 metres to a gate on the left where I gained access to the hill. Once over the gate I crossed the field to a fence on the right running steeply uphill and followed it up crossing another fence on the way. At B8866602379 starB where the fence turned abruptly right I got my fist view of the top which lay some 1.2km further along NW on a prominent dome shaped ridge. Leaving the fence I then continued NW for some way across a broad almost level marshy area. As the ground began to steepen the marshy ground gave way to peat hags and rocks, going up in a series of small stepped rises to the top, set amidst a mix of peat and rock at B8787903263 starC and near a small pond. Croaghleheen is a twinned top hill with the second but lower top due N of the summit. The views on the day were quite extensive with Agla Mt and Scraigs fronting the more distant Bluestacks ridge to the SE, while NE along the Finn Valley lay the Glendowan Mountains around Glenveigh. Although low in stature this is a hill of some substance calling for due care and attention to route finding in poor visability. In this regard Point B marking the top of the fence would be a useful checkpoint. I returned by way of ascent (3.8 km round trip) and climbed nearby Derkbeg Hill on the same day.
