The three tops
by Kennyj  19 Mar 2016
Climbed Coumfea today taking in its North and West tops, parked at main car park at the Mahon falls and climbed up the energy sapping shoulder of Comeragh mountain, from the third cairn I walked on a bearing of 330 crossing a small stream after about 10 minutes before heading for Coumfea, difficult to ascertain the top,no cairn or marker seen. From here I headed N towards the north top which has a small cairn on top of a peat hag. From here back towards the cliff edge under Coumfea and followed the rim around to the West top. After a spot of lunch overlooking the Coumalochas I headed back around the rim to spot height 717 before taking a bearing of 126 back to Comeragh mountain.Difficult ground for the most with lots of bog and peat hags, thankfully the recent dry spell made the bog easier, the best ground on this walk was around the rim as well as the best views.Distance 10.9 km,time taken 3 hours, max elevation 744m.
