Summary for Slievefoore (An Sliabh Fuar): A short and direct walk to the top.

Picture: View across to Slievefoore from the track on Croghan Klnsella.
Park at SlFoore S (T15294 71417) the entrance track to Raheenleagh Forest where there is ample room for several cars. Walk WNW up the track for 100 metres to another track A (T15154 71471)which branches off to the right and goes straight but gently uphill through the trees. Follow it up. Although this track is shown on OSi Steet 62 3rd Edition as a straight line up to the forest edge this is not the case on the ground. At a point where the way ahead is blocked the track swings right and can be followed around and then up left passing through two iron gates and, the where it meets the forest edge, another gate B (T15391 72485). It is then a short walk out across short grass and heather to the summit C (T15528 72539). There are fine views down along the E coast and NW across to Croghan Kinsella and Annagh Hill. Return by way of ascent or for a little variety descend WNW to the main forest track at D (T15160 72502), turn left and follow it down to the start. (Please note that the tracks used in this route are not shown in the 4th Edition of Sheet 62 but are there, on the ground, as of 18 August 2013)

Slieverfoore's best attribute are the views. Unspectacular itself, the views of Croghan Mountain and Annagh Hill are quite good. I'm not sure if Sheet 62 has been updated since my 1995 edition, but the forest tracks to the south of the summit (from where we approached) aren't quite accurate. The junction at E (T152 723) has five arms now, and we took the fifth (right) turn. After a few hundred metres we went through a gate, then left up the hill through another gate. This brought us up to the summit area.
The summit itself is a ring of old rocks crowning a rough pasture, where the sheep looked surprised to see us. Probably not one of the most visited summits in the area. My 200th comment! Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/767/comment/2865/

Here's another view of Slievefoore's flattish summit which has a ring of whitish stones on it. Some of the Wicklow coastline is visible here - the full view includes Arklow and the wind farm in the Irish Sea.

One place to start to reach this summit is from a forest entrance at B'nagore (T15198 74118). Follow the path for a while and then head across what is a largely cut down forest (as of 2009) for the summit. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/767/comment/3752/
