In the last week or so I have taken a renewed interest in my local 100. At the moment I am still mostly a hill runner. This evening I had reason to be near Stookeen, dropping off one of my lads to a friends house, south of Shillelagh. I have been near Stookeen many times over the years along the Wicklow way and also looping the hill by trail, but never visited the top.

This evening I parked down the road a bit to give a slightly longer run and I entered the trails at the forest gate just north of the Wicklow way entrance at Raheenakit. I followed the trail up until it merged with the Wicklow Way (WW) and the trail led upwards to the fireroad junction, where WW goes left, I went right and within 50 metres or so there was a clear trail on the left (quad bike made - like a double single track)) leading upwards. Walked and jogged up until it swung slightly right to reveal a nice trig point amongst a pile of stones. Nice views from the top across Wicklow. Saw a walker below the summit who appeared to be on another track, so I ventured to follow that track down - and very nice it was too, gathering pace on the downhill. This led down to the fireroad, and a right turn and a short time later it joined with the Wicklow Way, from where I followed it downwards back to the WW entrance at Raheenakit.
