Small on challenge,big on views

Walked to mast strewn summit today, staring at graveyard car park in Askamore I followed the red looped walk (Askamore loop) to add some distance to the climb.Following this well signposted loop until before it meets a concrete road going downhill I took the forest track on my left turning left at the first junction after about 100 yards, right at the next junction and right again following the track uphill to the summit. As previously stated the summit has a number of masts but the views south towards the Blackstairs,North towards the snow capped Wickow mountains and east towards the Irish Sea are a sight to behold.Total distance 13 km in a little over 2.5 hours taking a short stop for lunch.Highly recommended. Easy hill, great views.

Fine hill if your looking for panoramic reward without great effort. Slieveboy's splendid isolation and steep relief above surrounding countryside definitely offers commanding views in every direction.

If you have the time, Slieve Gower 300m (not an MV summit.) , the other high point on the same ridge, 1.5km NE, is a worthy deviation. It too has super views, especially east to the coast, as the summit falls steeply beneath you.

Access is from the forest road leading NE at the rear of the car park on the Camolin side. I Dont have exact coordinates yet but an approx 1.5km walk along this gently leaning and scenic passage will bring you to a narrow track upwards off the road at a break in the forest .The summit is only a 10 min hike from here. An up-and-down to the location referenced in my other comment can be done in 90 minutes, and given the lack of nearby summits to make a circuit, that's probably all you'll want to do. This photo shows one of the telecomms installations on the summit. I'll remember Slieveboy as the last of the Dublin/Wicklow summits I had to bag.
