Rather than commencing the walk from the car park beside the beach in Malin Beg i choose to ascend via the access road to turf cuttings at G4966481023 A with adjacent parking. After the gravel track expires you will find tractor tracks which will bring you further up to the short heather close to the rocky summit area. Many cairns adorn the outer ring of the summit area with views of Slieve League and Rathlin O Birne island and its lighthouse. Usually done in isolation, we decided to tackle this after doing the Slieve League summits and then return to our car which was parked beside Lough Auva to the north. The descent from S. League for 1km was very steep, a mixture of grass and heather and the ground uneven. We then began the ascent of about 2.3km. This turned out to be a dreadful trudge up a seemingly never-ending slope, and boggy and uneven underfoot, regularly having to take detours around peat hags etc. The broad summit is littered with small rocks and our GPS indicated a high point at a small pile of rocks. I couldn't honestly recommend this approach! The descent was less unpleasant on the extremely misty day, and eventually we emerged to decent views of Lough Auva.
