As seen in the unfortunately dark picture, surface damage isn't limited to the col between Slievemaan and Lugnaquillia. Here is a shot of the summit, pitted with ATV tracks. Almost on cue, three riders drove past as I was doing my best to enjoy the summit. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/70/comment/1795/

Lug circuit
by geohappy  13 Jul 2014
Today did the circuit Camara Hill - Lug - Slievemaan - Ballineddan. Started misty but cleared for fine views all the way to Slievenamon. Noted some quad bike tracks between Lug and Sl'maan but the ground seems to have recovered since the awful photos from earlier comments. It helps that we had a dry June and the ground was easy underfoot. Very glad I hadn't tackled Ballineddan first - a steep and monotonous climb but a very quick and easy descent thanks to the dry conditions! Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/70/comment/17548/

Vandalised by quadbikers

A potentially brilliant mountain for walking destroyed by quadbikers; the summit cairn is surrounded by a sea of mud thanks to our considerate friends on 4 wheels. The col between Slievemaan and Lug is also quite boggy. Still worth a visit - just bring gaiters. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/70/comment/20452/

Accessed this hill from Lugnaquilla via Percy's Table after ascending from Aughavannagh Bridge (See comments on Lugnaquilla by this author for details). Not a particularly exciting hill and with only a tiddler of a cairn, well ok not a cairn more like someone tipped up a wheelbarrow of stones! which lies in a sea of mud churned up by the machines already bemoaned by other commenters on this mountain. To be fair, I did this because it's another ticked off the highest hundred, sadly not because of a burning desire to see mud. After this we returned to the car at Aughavannagh via Lybagh and Aughavannagh mountain and then the forest track nearest the Ow river. Whole circuit took about 5 and a half hours walking time. Photo is of the aforesaid "cairn". Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/70/comment/4239/

A leisurely walk across from Ballineddan and a good stop-off point for the ascent of Lug. As stated by others, there is massive damage both on the face of the mountain and in particular at the summit due to quads. The small cairn sits in the middle of a mudpool of quad tracks..
