The lake below this peak is Lough Moylan. The name Knockshane is marked on the lower northern slopes on the Discovery map.   Knockmoylan is the second highest mountain in the Knockmealdown Mountains area and the 63rd highest in Ireland.

Knockmoylan, unnamed on the 1:50k map, only just qualifies as an independent top. It forms part of a ridge running North from Knockmealdown.
