Cavorting with Carns
by eamonoc  19 May 2014
Climbed on Thursday 15/5/2014. Started at G 7567 4001 starA, parked beside a concrete sheep pen, room for two cars here, headed back along access road for approx 100mts to a gate and headed steeply uphill from here after about 5mins discovered an old well made terraced track that zig zagged uphill taking the sting out of the steep ascent. This path led uphill between spot height 411mts called Edenbaun on OS sheet 16 and Crockauns to the North East. Headed towards Crockauns and found low stone wall mentioned by paddyshillbagger and followed it easily to Summit of Crockauns. It took about 40mins from the car to Summit, a pleasant climb with fantastic views across the valley towards Hangmans Hill and the Keelogyboy Massif. Copes Mt lay to the west, and a fence was easily followed almost all the way to it. On a misty day good navigational skills would be a must to cross the undulating boggy plateau which seperates these two Mts. This climb was done in the company of Fergalh, Crockauns was his 500th summit climbed listed in Mt Views, he assures me that all remaining Binnions he has yet to bash can breathe a collective sigh of relief, as he has now taken to cavorting with Carns for the summer. Leitrim or Sligo?

Followed madfrankie's route which is a short but steep route providing lovely views for such a short hike. Handrailing the fence will get you most of the way up the steepest part of the climb. Then head North West to the cairn marking the summit. Lovely views of Glencar Lough and the Northern Dartry's. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/570/comment/20127/
