B'Bawn Ln (S809 410). A forest track leads away to the right, and there is also room for another two cars just past the track gate (if you are prepared to risk not having it closed!) Walk up the forest track for roughly 3.5km, ignoring all possible turns to the left, until you reach the col at A (S796 432). Turn left along a decent, rising trail for another 1km, which will take you to the high point, which you can identify by a few stones off to the right of the track.

We tackled Carrigalachan from the same start point we used for Bran Scultar ( B'Bawn Ln (S809 410)), and followed the forest track up to the col between Carrigalachan and Caher Roe's Den. We turned left and headed up towards the summit, handrailing the forest to the left. Some damage from quad bikes is evident, but nothing too severe. There are some great views of Caher Roe's Den and Blackstairs on the way up, and more great views of Brandon and Bran Scultar near the summit. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/568/comment/2859/

After taking in Bran Scultair and Carrigroe, I finshed my afternoons walk here. A walk from the Scullogue Gap over Blackstairs Mountain, Caher Roe's Den, Carrigalachan, Carrigroe, and on to Bran Scultair would be highly recommended. The views are amazing given the Blackstairs isolation from other peaks, and the ground is excellent. The path does give out for a bit on the col between Carrigroe and Carrigalachan but is not a problem. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/568/comment/3083/

Hold your horses

Did this as part of a double-bag, taking in this summit and Carrigroe. On the approach from the col with Blackstairs Mountain I encountered about 6 horses happily chewing away in the heather, including a white one that looked like Gandalf's horse and this chap, who regarded me warily for several minutes.
