The cliffs of Minaun are spectacular when viewed from Keel. They offer a popular launch site for hang-gliding. The summit is a magnificent viewpoint, giving a surprisingly broad view of all of Achill and much of West Mayo, considering its moderate height. For a walk to the TV mast on Minaun, see Siúlóidí Acla, walk K. The summit is a little further on. Sometimes spelt Menawn.   Minaun is the 675th highest place in Ireland.

Fabulous scenery featuring one of Ireland's best scenic views.
by Damian120  17 May 2019
It's often hard to encapsulate such breathtaking coastal scenery in the west of Ireland. Sometimes it is nice to do a relatively easy walk and be amply reward through a series of picture-postcard settings. What a view looking over towards Keel Strand, Keem Beach, Croaghaun and Slievemore Mountain. I had the binoculars and enjoyed unrivalled views of Slievemore Deserted Village at the foot of Slievemore Mountain. I did walk over to the statue of the Virgin Mary (Barr an Mhionnáin) as it's on an elevated path and presents better photo opportunities It takes about 10-minutes over the gravel trail. I will say, the particular view from the statue is astounding. This is the ideal trail for anybody of any age looking for that "WOW" factor without having to exert themselves too much. 12/8/2013 After climbing Tievereivagh earlier in the morning, decided to drive up to the masts on Minaun, from there it took 12 mins to reach the summit statue weather was fantastic. stunning views in all direction. Went a bit further past the summit and met Buzz Light year, see photograph Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/561/comment/15067/

Great Sunset views

Easy walk with great views. Have done this short walk a few times and started from F670 027 A A as shown on the map.
If you continue past the statue at the top you can descend the far side of the peak and veer to the right where you'll join a trail that leads down to keel beach ref F658 030 B. It's an old trail called the coffin trail which people used to climb to the top. Also a great way down for if you're on a bike! Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/561/comment/20836/

Viewing platform par excellence

Also worth mentioning the pretty stunning panoramic views which take in the whole Island. The picture shows the view over Keel Strand and out to Croghaun (with it's customary covering of cloud), Achill Head and Slievemore. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/561/comment/15166/

To cheat or not to cheat.
by TommyV  2 Nov 2018
A nice hike could be made for this hill including what looks like a lovely cliff walk to the South of the summit but as we had already bagged a couple of peaks the same day we cheated and drove to the masts at the top as mentioned by simon3. From here it's a short walk of just over a kilometer to the statute at the summit. Great views over Keel beach. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/561/comment/20170/
