Cooneen / An Cuainín [LL] is a townland in the parish of Dolla. The recess referred to may well be the narrow defile with waterfalls on the SE slope of Cooneen Hill.   Cooneen Hill is the 673rd highest place in Ireland.

Nothing to add to simon3's directions. Like quite a few of the hills in North Tipperary, this one is through a Coilte forest track to begin with and then the tough push through some horrible ground, I guess that's the price we pay for the lesser visited, out of the way hills with no masts or transmitters.
