Conor74 on Torc Mountain West Top, 2009
by Conor74  6 Apr 2009
Very easy to access, just about 20 minutes detour off the path up Torc itself. Near the summit of Torc, Torc west is obvious on the right of the path (the side facing the Reeks) as one descends. It just takes a quick 5 minute scramble across a flat area of wet ground that has some patches of bog, and then 5 minutes up the slope, some scree to get over but very easy. Nice views, doesn't really add a huge amount if one has already done Torc. Nice view of Torc itself, and a bit more along the Kenmare Killarney road and the Long Range Lake visible, but maybe more for those wishing to rack up the tally of peaks - it's so close to Torc as to make that very achieveable. Those who like wildlife can keep the camera to hand, on the day I was there I bumped into a number of deer which possibly prefer this quiter area to the busier slopes of Torc. Not only great views, but saw four deer and a large herd of around 10 wild goats on my last visit in July 2013. Didn't know that these were to be found in the National Park. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/550/comment/15996/
