Fuhiry (W14146 71751), room for 5-6 cars.Follow the very obvious gravel track uphill, passing through one gate to the summit trig pillar of Mweelin. Pass by the pillar and on to the track end.Go slightly uphill to find the sheepwire fence and follow this down into a small wet col then up to the summit of Lackabaun on the far side.

Dull top with little to recommend

This is an unremarkable summit in every sense. The trudge to it along the ridge that runs from SW to NE is a tedious one, uneven bog covered in heather, although the slope is very gentle. The summit itself is a small bump of upraised bog with a bit of a boulder peeking through. Purely for the baggers. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/544/comment/18003/

The stroll up to this little summit begins begins on the tarred road at Fuhiry (W14146 71751) where there is room to park many cars. Follow the very obvious gravel track uphill, passing Mweelin, to the track end.Go slightly uphill to find the sheepwire fence and follow this down then up to the summit of Lackabaun.
Speaking to the enthusiastic owner of the very welcoming Gougane Barra Hotel afterwards, I was informed that this track was once part of a public road/track over the mountains. In any case it makes short work of some of the journey to Lackabaun.
Now I could describe the first flash of leg by Gougane Barra that you get from here or the expansive explosion of green grass and blue sky looking over the Lee valley to the true capital, but, its the industrial majesty of the windfarm scattered over the small hills of Kerry that draws your eye.
