Add a Place Comment for Benbaun, Binn Bhán (527) in Area: Twelve Bens, E: Glencorbet, County: Galway, E: Glencorbet
Last summit on a circuit of Glencorbet.
Start from the R344 road just 1km south of the little road into Glencorbet about Glshmor Br (L812 569), then up Knockpasheemore, along the ridge and up on to the beautiful Benbaun (I can't ever remember seeing so many mountains from one summit, enough to make a grown man weep!). Lunch then over to Lugatarrif or Benfree if you like, down into the col and head north before the climb up Muckanaght into Maumnascalpa, the pass between Muckanaght and Benbrack. Take a pause to decide if your legs have anything more to give (If not head down the Glencorbet valley to return to start). Then a tough pull up Benbrack, and a lovely walk further north to the other Benbaun (the littler one!). Here you may want to take endless photo's of the Kylemore area, the Renvyle peninsula, all the lakes, mountains and seascapes you can shake a stick at, the beautiful scenes are almost infinite and this is an area where you could so easily get too much scenery and never be able to walk anywhere else again! A steep drop northwest (careful now!) on grassy slopes down towards Kylemore, passing a lime kiln at A (L754 578) at the head of an alder shaded laneway bringing you back to the road. Pray that like me you have a very loving wife prepared to collect you (no irony I swear!), or you may have a long tarmac drag to your start point!
It's only 12km but well on for 1100m ascent so give yourself a good day, and I promise you won't look for your money back Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/527/comment/6384/
