The mineral works of earliest celebrity are the copper and lead mines of the Silvermines. They were first worked by an English company in the seventeenth century, who extracted a considerable quantity of silver from the ore [Gleeson - History of Ely O'Carroll Territory].   Silvermine Mountains E Top is the 631st highest place in Ireland.

Good walk for all the family.
