The Folks Who Live on the Hill

Curiosity made me investigate Westown Hill, having blissfully passed within a hundred metres of its ‘summit’ many a time on walks, drives and cycles. The top lies up a tarmac road leading west off the Tramore Pitch ‘n’ Putt Club road. This 100-metre stretch of tar is more private driveway than public road, with a house awaiting your arrival up top. Neither the road nor the house is gated but there are signs about: ‘CCTV’ and other hints at privacy.
On arrival up top the man of the house was working outside. He was friendly and showed me his fine view of the distant Comeraghs. Unfortunately, sea-views are not so great – it’s a bit far back from the water – disappointing for a coastal hill, unless you could get the views from the first floor windows of the house, which is unlikely.
To be blunt, I don’t know what Westown Hill is doing on MV. If you must tick this off, only if you absolutely must, park somewhere adjacent to the P ‘n’ P club and spend a few minutes of your hard-earned life investigating this semi-private driveway, though it’s hardly worth such miniscule effort. A way of justifying a visit would be by doing it as part of a roadwalk around from Newtown and back to Tramore. Or perhaps just park at the nearby derelict old shell of the once famous and sadly missed ‘Rocketts of the Metal Man’ – a true heritage establishment that should have been preserved, a victim of the Celtic tiger, which if my tear-filled eye is anything to go by, is every bit as high as the ‘summit’ of Westown Hill. The house described in the previous comment is under a major extension and i would assume in the not too distance future that a more robust boundary fence will be erected. Tramore's Highest Point

It is still possible to walk up the driveway to the house mentioned previously and the trig is just to the left across a field. I knocked on their door and met a lovely lady and two big fine dogs and she gave me permission to walk over to it. She informed me that it was the highest point in Tramore.
