Picture: From Nowen Far West
Park at Nowen W (W10378 51710) a forest entrance, room for 2 cars. Walk downhill to the north for a few hundred meters and cross the stile for the Sheeps Head way to your left. Follow the well marked (yellow paint) trail through the trees and out onto open hillside. Follow the regular Sheeps Head way marker posts to the summit. The summit is marked by a small cairn next to a wire fence crossed by another stile.
This is the place to view Bantry Bay and Cork's highest, Knockboy.

Picture: View over Bantry Bay from Mullaghmesha
Great view over West cork
by bernice 2 Aug 2011
A wonderful view of West Cork climbing Mullaghmesha. Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay can be seen at the same time and this on a day of medium to poor visibility. On a good day the whole of West Cork can be seen. A well preserved habitat of heath, grass, wildflower and lough. well worth the effort finding Castle Donovan via Bantry or Dunmanway to begin the hike. Be alert for sudden arrival of sea mist and fog. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/478/comment/6456/

Picture: What a view
Big view - short climb
by thomas_g 13 Jul 2012
Parked at Jackill's Nowen W (W10378 51710) which doesn't look like a forest entrance from the gate, but it is. It's a short walk to the top which was boggy in July (not surprising considering the rain we've had). You could be up and down in an hour, but trust me once you see the view, you'll want to spend some time at the top. I agree with Bernice: this is possibly the best view in Cork for the effort. You can see Mizen Head, Sheeps Head, Beara and even Carrauntoohil (if you've been good and eaten your vegetables). Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/478/comment/14719/

The top has a small cairn on a broad dome covered in grass and heather. The view in this picture includes Nowen in the background. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/478/comment/23193/
