The element bolbain also occurs in the names of two townlands in Inishowen, Bulbinmore (Bolbain Mhór) and Bulbinbeg (Bolbain Bheag), but the meaning of this element is unclear. An alternative Irish form, Cnoc Bulaba, is given by Charles McGlinchey in An Fear Deireanach den tSloinneadh / The Last of the Name.   Bulbin is the 589th highest place in Ireland.

Relatively easy bag from the south
Short Summary created by Colin Murphy  15 Apr 2022
It is possible to drive up to C360 410 starA where there is parking for a couple of cars. (On the way up this minor road there is a makeshift 'gate', which is essentially a moveable wire fence dragged across the road - be sure to replace it after you drive through.) Follow the track west for about 150m and then turn north across open hillside, keeping to the right of the stream. You will see a gate at roughly C358 414 starB, and where you can cross the stream. Go over gate and ascend on to the broad ridge running NE toward the top. Continue NE for about 1km to reach the summit, which is marked by a sizeable monument commemorating the Eucharistic Congress in the 1930s. Fine views all around. Time up and down, 1.5 hrs.
