Máire MacNeill, discussing the customs associated with Caher Roe's Den, reports: Lesser piles along the top of the mountain-ridge are called after Fionn's dog, Bran, which is said to have leaped from one pile to another (MacNeill, 225). Bran Scultair and the nearby Dho Bran appear to be two such names, though their precise meaning is not clear.   Dho Bran is the 536th highest place in Ireland. Dho Bran is the most southerly summit and also the second most westerly in the Blackstairs Mountains area.
