Crossing to Coomcathcun
by CaptainVertigo  25 Apr 2014
The photo shows An Bhinn Lair from the summit of Coomcathcun. I reckon the crossing from An Bhinn Lair to Coomcathcun will not be unduly troublesome. Even though the ground is really quite wild, the col is high enough at about 440m so that the drop from An Bhinn Lair is about 75m and the ascent from the col to Coomcathcun is about 140m. I believe that the real challenging ground is around Lough Coomavanniha and generally between Cnoc Breasail and Coomcathcun, and then from its summit south towards Coomnahorna or Coomcallee. While the ground in the general area is very rough, at least it's mostly quite firm. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/424/comment/16038/

Camp below summit of An Bhinn Lair at V632708 A. We were sheltered for 2 nights from prevailing N/NE winds that left the east of Ireland in cold and snow. Sunset and sunrise photo opportunities were magnificent. Snowy/misty conditions encountered on Tues 3rd Feb. Two more 500m+ "summits" in the bag, at least a start for 2009!
