Arroo is a townland in Rossinver parish, barony of Rosclogher. The name may be derived from Ir. áradh, ‘ladder’. Alternatively, it may be related to Welsh arro, ‘bank’. Either way, the name seems to refer to the steep slopes of Arroo Mountain which rise from the shore of Lough Melvin.   Arroo Mountain is the 498th highest place in Ireland. Arroo Mountain is the most northerly summit in the Dartry Mountains area.

Arroo from E, partial drive in
by rhw  5 May 2024
4 May 2024. From ESE, drove the peat road half mile until stone surfacing ended, extra clearance useful, probably not essential. Might be better to cross the burn sooner than I did but aok. OSI trig pillar with HP 35m SSW. Cloud lifting, stayed dry. GPX track via https://peakbagger.com/climber/ascent.aspx?aid=2502546 Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/407/comment/24190/
