My favourite approach of Pigeon Rock is from the West. Start at the carpark off the Sandbann Road and follow the track alongside the Rocky River. The path goes through the valley between Hen Mountain and Rocky Mountain, where a few decent camping spots can be found along the banks of the river. Continue along the path and follow it left up the Rowan Tree River. It's here that the stone track ends and the boggy path begins. Gaiters are a must! The path starts to steepen as it takes you up the col between Slievemoughanmore and Pigeon Rock. Keep ascending untill you reach the stile at the wall. From here there are some great views across the valley and the majestic tors of Hen Mountain. From the stile follow the wall straight to the top of Pigeon Rock, crowned with it's shallow pools. The views from here are brilliant, with Spelga Dam to the North. It's an easy enough climb and a pleasant mountain to sit a have a cup of tea on!
