Red Grouse near the summit.
by BarnaneGoat  10 Feb 2017
I climbed here a few days ago from the east along the Dublin Mountains Way. The summit was shrouded in mist and we went astray at one point. I later discovered this was the result of a way marker post which didn't have any arrow plates. Now and again we caught some views when the mist cleared for a minute or two. The highlight was spotting some red grouse in the heather on our descent. This is a rare and endangered bird and I didn't expect to see it on this mountain as there were quite a lot of walkers about, even for a cold Wednesday in February.
