An Fear Mór, 'the big man', occurs in a number of Irish place-names. It may refer to a giant or be a euphemism for the Devil. Cf. Crockanirmore, Crockanirvore and Oweyanirvore, all in Termmonmaguirk parish, Co. Tyrone; also Cuan an Fhir Mhóir, Greatman's Bay in Connemara, where the name is associated with the legend of a giant who fished for whales. Croaghanirwore is the 431st highest place in Ireland.

Wilderness awaits

One of the unfortunate things about this fine mountain is that although it is in close proximity to other summits, is that it is necessary to lose a great amount of the climbing you've already done and drop right down about 200m into a valley before beginning a fairly steep ascent. That said, it is worth the effort as, sitting in the heart of the Bluestacks, you really do get a sense of wilderness here.
