I parked at the entrance to the old mine on the road from Laragh to the Wicklow Gap and simply went straight up, and down. Two things to watch out for. I suspect that not many walk this way so there'll be times when you will have to wade through heather with no obvious path, and , more importantly, there are a couple of places where you can break a leg or worse because the heather camouflages massive holes. I almost came a cropper during a somewhat exuberant descent!
If you are feeling particularly lazy there is an alternative route to the summit. You park at the Wicklow Gap and walk east to the bend in the road and then ascend into the long col between Tonlagee and Brockagh Mountain. Although the horizontal distance travelled will be greater, there will be less vertical ascent, and that Ladies and Gentlemen is the where the work comes in.
Wonderful 360 panorama from the summit. Most ground okay underfoot. Potential for difficulties with heather, and watch for hidden holes underneath. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/346/comment/15995/
