Up pilgram path to reek then west down via ridge. hot sun, cloud inversions
by gaoithe  21 May 2024
We stashed 2 bikes at small roads T junction to the West of Ben Goram. Left cars parked at pilgrim car park in Murrisk. Cracking sunny day. Thunderstorms away to North and West of us. As we climbed cloud inversion rolled in to the land South and a smaller one to North over Clew Bay. Steep climb up Croagh Patrick so tough enough but the new steps are much easier than walking on the old shifting stone scree. Amazing views on top although the midges started to come out in good numbers. We headed West following the ridge and peaks down to Ben Goram. Rough and indistinct track, very steep, stone scree in places and heather grass hillside. Walking into setting sun. More sheep, zero other people. Down from Ben Goram track is even less distinct and steeper, more grass/heather/green underfoot. Back to road. Lights on bikes 6km cycle back the road to cars.
