Went up the gully just below the ramp, was very challenging but worth it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has a low comfort zone or in wet/bad weather but its an alternative route that people should be aware of. Give yourself about 4hrs to the summit this way if you push on. Trackback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/34/comment/3337/

General summary of climb
by Pstan  23 Jan 2011
I climbed Mweelrea on Saturday 22/01/11, from the East side at L82820 69529 A, accessed between Doo Lough and Glencullin Lough. Its a very good workout to the top and the view at the top is very rewarding. I note there is alot of text on this mountain already so I wont go into much detail. In summary, you follow the nearby stream up to a plateau. From here you have to loop around, from left to right, up a valley, if thats what it is called!! This is a tough climb, you`ll feel a nice burn on your quads. After this climb you get up a height of about 700m, which you will think must be near the summit. However, you must swing a left to find the summit, which takes about 45/50 mins from here. You`ll have to head down to about 640m and back up to the summit. The views on the way to the summit are unreal. Enjoy. Trackback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/34/comment/6211/

Climbed Mweelrea this Summer - same climb as prev photo, but rather misty at the top (see pic 2 & comment 3 for well.. the rather murky wet top!)
Note: We did find the sheep near the summit to be a bit annoying, as things were getting rather steep, yet these animals just run by you like nothing's the matter?!?!?! Gas really!

Good place to test yourself out, a great climbing effort is needed from the Ramp side of the climb, a huge effort is needed to get over this ramp, the rest of it to the summit is easy compared to what came before. Trackback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/34/comment/970/
