Bedrock type: Granite with microcline phenocrysts, (Type 2p microcline porphyritic)

Also known as Fancy, from Ir. Fuinnse [PNCW], 'ash-tree', and Cloghoge. Price's interpretation of this name as Log an Lágh, 'hollow of the hill', is doubtful. There is no evidence in dictionaries for the existence of a word lágh with this meaning. The second element does not appear to be lá, 'day', either.   Luggala is the 307th highest place in Ireland.

A favorite of mine, Ive been up Lugala quite a few times over the last ten years. And so have many others, by the eroded trails that are ever present. However, i like it because I can bring anyone with me and they are always capable of the walk. Which is a great way to get anyone interested in walking. Parking not far from the sally gap, is an easy walk in definatly less than an hour to its peak. Then the views are just the best, especially on a clear day.
