As this peak is rather far from any castle (at Castledrum or Castlemaine), it may be simply named from its commanding position. It is located in the townland of Shanakeal (par. Kilgarrylander).   Castle Hill is the 288th highest place in Ireland.

Southern outlier of Slieve Mish
by Bunsen7  21 Apr 2022
Positively diminutive compared to its higher neighbours (I.e. Baurtregaum) when viewed from similarly high ground to the west, Castle Hill is a less often visited southern outlier of the Slieve Mish, but a direct approach from the south will involve c500m of ascent.
