Pluais an Rábaigh or The Rábach's Cave is situated at the foot of Eskatarriff, at the end of the valley known as the Pocket. It was used in the late 19th century as a hideout by Seán an Rábach after committing two notorious murders.   Eskatarriff is the 286th highest place in Ireland.

Long Back Rim of Cummeengeara
Short Summary created by CaptainVertigo  29 Aug 2014
Eskatarriff sprawls along the back of the Pocket of Cummeengeara from Coomacloghane to Lackabane. It's East Top sits provocatively on its giant eastern shoulder. As with most of the horseshoe the exterior slope is gentle enough: the interior is steep. Nearly all walkers will encounter Eskatarriff as part of the circuit of the Pocket and will love the sense of being on the rim, seeing both sides on the way. The gradient of the Eskatarriff section of the walk is generally slight. The ground can be either peaty in places, or rocky. Views abound in all directions. Getting there will generally involve a trip from Kenmare to Lauragh. Route options include an ascent over Tooth Mountain from either V75426 55335 starA or V76724 57296 starB with an easy traverse of Coomacloghane. The alternative eastern route is over Lackabane from either the carpark in the Pocket at V75426 55335 starA or from V76724 57296 starB. (Note that the Pocket start at V75426 55335 starA includes an access/ parking charge of €4 as well as a very steep ascent.)
There is another option: one can continue from Lauragh to Ardgroom by car and take a left to the northern tip of Glanbeg Lough. Park there at V70103 53800 starC and ascend the obvious slope to the col on the northern slope of Eskatarriff. Of course, with two cars, one can mix and match the above routes. Fine views down the glen

While not as impressive as its smaller neighbour Eskatarriff E, Eskatarriff offers some fine views down Rabachs glen. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/275/comment/16059/

The summit of Eskatarriff is barely perceptible on the gently rising and falling ridge on the western end of the Cummeengeera Horseshoe walk above Rabach's Glen near Lauragh. There are a few stones on the bog to mark a point where some people have guessed the summit may be ... I'm not so sure.

The photo of the summit is undramatic rounded area in the centre of the photo at the top of the valley taken from Coomacloghane. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/275/comment/938/

Picture: A Special View into The Pocket
More to Savour than you might Think
by CaptainVertigo  28 Aug 2014
There is a tendency to see Eskatarriff as comprising solely its less than spectacular summit (certainly less striking than the smaller adjacent East Top). In fact we need to remember that Eskatarriff includes the "rim" of the horseshoe that runs from the col with Coomacloghane, and therefore provides a unique view into the Pocket allowing the walker to see Tooth and Coomacloghane on the left and its own Tops and Lackabane on the right. I thought that this was a special place. While the photo shows the view into the Pocket, don't forget that a simple 180 degree turn reveals Glenbeg Lough, and Lackawee and the Knocknagrees. So , although this "rim" is a tiny bit "peaty", it is beautifully located. Typically, I had this place entirely to myself, achieved by the simple device of getting up early Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/275/comment/17654/
