Glengarra Wood to Knockeenatoung
by SpiritOf84  25 Feb 2022
Parked at Glengarra Wood R92940 18847 starA today and set off on the Millennium Trail before veering off NW on a forest track rising above the valley to the right. After approx 45 mins and nearing the end of the track before it began to descend I headed up the steep eastern slope of Knockeenatoung. There is a cairn a couple of hundred metres SE of the concrete hut but neither this or its height is mentioned on the OS map. The summit offers fine views across the Central and Eastern Galtys. Descended to join the Black Road towards Galtymore but, with time and daylight against me, I played it safe and detoured to bag another of the Galty's lower peaks at R89239 23271 starB (Spot Height 657m), before heading back to the car, skirting around the base of Knockeenatoung to pick up the forest track again. Approx 13km; 5 hours. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/272/comment/23421/
