Garinish island is not so much a challenge in terms of a hike but a visit here to learn how a barren piece of rock in Bantry Bay was transformed into a garden paradise. A stroll around the small island affords views that are up there with what you see on 600 metre plus mountains. The nesting pair of sea eagles can be seen from the ferry taking passengers to and from Glengarriff. The thrill of seeing these magnificent birds in the wild was worth the ferry price alone, and we hadn’t even got to the island yet. A great day out.
