From the vicinity of Cloghane church there is a strange optical illusion whereby this peak seems higher than the summit, though it is actually over 100m lower.   Barr an Ghéaráin is the 25th highest place in Ireland.

Interesting ridge to the east
by Onzy  28 Apr 2015
On a recent clear day, I got a great view of the ridge that descends in an easterly (with a touch of north) direction into Loch Croichte. This must be a spectacular ascent route and looks feasible from the map, though maybe not right along the crest. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/24/comment/17956/

Picture: Only seven to go!
A big one for me, in every sense.
by Colin Murphy  16 May 2016
Brandon Peak marked my 400th Arderin - I came prepared as you can see from the shot! Little prepared me however for the beautiful blue sky, the summer's day warmth, the stunning scenery no matter where you looked, and the conical, sharply defined peak. One of the best in Ireland. A local man, Dan O'Sullivan from Dingle, who I met near the top and who I'd say was in his 70's - even pointed out the distant artificial road leading up to the Star Wars set! A heavenly day all round! Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/24/comment/18528/

I had to include this shot of a thrill-seeking sheep who seems to be enjoying the view of Loch an Mhonain. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/24/comment/18529/

Brandon Peak situated on the Brandon Ridge south of the main summit offers panoramic views of Castlegregory and the Maharees. Usually included as part of the ridge walk from Brandon to the Connor Pass, it can also be accessed from an ancient right of way known as An Bothar Mhileata crossing An Gearan en route.
