Arriving at Corcogemore the view of Mullach Glas to the west opens up. I had downloaded Simon Stewart’s Maumturks walk route onto my gps and I followed the route NW from Corcog before heading W to reach Cruiscin (Mullach Glas NE Top). To head directly west to Mullach Glas from Corcog would mean finding oneself facing tricky steep slopes on the descent and an eventual climb back up to the col, so it’s safer and more efficient to go with Simon’s (and csd’s) route.

In the event I was lucky to have a largely clear day where visibility was excellent. The biggest challenge was not slipping on ice and snow covered rock, and resisting the urge to skid across the various frozen ponds en route! Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/239/comment/4450/

Navigation up from Cruiscín is easy, as a row of fence posts (no fence though!) guide you up the obvious path. A little walker-induced erosion at some spots along the way up, but nothing too serious. Unfortunately the clouds stayed down during my short visit to the summit, but the shot shows the cairn and small pond marked on the Harvey map. The screenshot shows the route I took from the parking spot mentioned in my Corcóg entry. It's a 10km walk, which took about 4h30. Anyone wanting to use my GPS track as a reference can download it from http://homepage.eircom.net/~csdalton/corcog.gpx Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/239/comment/4438/

A flat summit with sheer cliffs and fine views.

Mullach Glas is a fine summit, likely to be tackled on a route which would also include Corcog and Binn Mhor. The summit area is rather flattish, but not too wide, allowing nice views as far as Mweelrea to the N and NE. The ascent from the col with Corcog is pretty steep while coming from Binn Mhor, there are only some 90m of more gentle climbing. There is a fence that runs along the cliffs' edge on that side. You may stick to the N side of the fence, using it as a handrail to follow the cliffs's edge, but care would probably be required at this point under wet conditions.
