Fabulous views

Climbed Knocknamanagh NE Top and Gullaba Hill in early November on a clear bright day. As mentioned previously park at bend (2 car space) at W021666 B on road from Kilgarvan to Bantry. There is a gate and good gravel road up the side of Knocknamanagh NE Top up to 260m. The tractor tracks mentioned are faint and lead west north west. These can be partially followed up the mountain but they go through newly planted forest and this will be a challenge in the future. It does appear that they loop around this forest area but descend first into the valley. A fence needs to be crossed (no Barbed Wire) and then follow another one up to summit. The summit of Knocknamanagh NE Top is ill defined - you may end up crossing the fence to find a suitable spot- the fence corner at the top is close to OS map height. Continue down the ridge following the fence line to Gullaba Hill (care if mist as steep drop off on right hand side). You can either continue to Bird Hill or as I did descend aiming for farm track at W014678 C. This continues as a farm track down to the minor grey road before completing the loop with a 1.5km road walk. There are a number of gates to climb over/open and you do walk literally through the yard of a farmhouse but I wasn't approached or stopped. I did not see anyone though (some dogs but enclosed). 2.5hrs for just under 7km. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/237/comment/17762/
