Inishbofin summit
by Wilderness 6 Aug 2017
The summit is in the middle of the island and is easy to access. There is a trail leading to the top on the south and east sides but you can also make your own way up. I got to the top by walking ,off trail, from the west side; it was a little marshy in places! There is also another nice hill worth climbing located on the west end of the island: A (L513 655). It must be roughly the same height as Middlequarter Linkback: mountainviews.ie/island/2211/comment/19629/

Highest Point is the West Quarter.89m ?
by ucampbell 14 Jun 2024
The way marked trail maps provided on the Island lead you to the Cliffs. However I wanted to reach the highest point and this was easily done in the time allowed before getting the afternoon ferry return. I'm surprised no one else on the forum has commented on the Islands highest point since the previous post. It's the West Quarter, according to my map. Fabulous views.

[ED: The only map in 2024 that has reasonably reliable contours that I am aware of covering this island, is the OS 1:50k. Looking at the 4th edition of this the height given in a spot height for Middlequarter is 89m. The western summit is above an 80m contour all right but there is no information as to what its height is. Were it to be 90m and so greater than Middlequarter then you would expect there to be a 90m contour, which there isn't. So I don’t think there is evidence for a change.] Linkback: mountainviews.ie/island/2211/comment/20464/

Three loops one hike
by TommyV 5 Jul 2019
Inishbofin has three marked looped trails on the island taking in the Western Quarter (Purple) loop the Middle Quarter (Blue) loop and the East side of the island Cloonmore (Red) loop. If making the journey all the way to this island it's possible to hike the entire island in a day. We followed the Cloonmore loop first which starts and finishes back at the quay which is ideal to have a bit of lunch at the Beach Bar before continuing to explore the rest of the island. Head North following the blue loop to the 89 metre mark just above the air field. I believe this to be the highest point on the island but there is debate as to the highest point on the Western Quarter being equal to this. In any case it's it's very easy to take in the Western Quarter loop from here by heading to a little beach at the North side of Lough Bofin where you will join the purple loop. It's possible to pop up to the top of the prominent hill on this side of the island if you are not sure about the Middle Quarter high point being the highest on the island. All in all a lovely island to hike and very different walks from the baron Western Quarter to the more sheltered inhabited Eastern side of the island. Western peak is the highest point on island
by Fergalh 2 Jul 2023
Took ferry on windy day and visited both Middle quarter (87 Metres) and Western quarter (89 Metres) peaks and the cliffs. As the ferry leaves Cleggan at 11.30 and Inishboffin at 17.00 there was not enough time to visit the third peak on the island Knock (82 metres) I concur with Ucampbell that the western peak is the highest on the island. Leave the red route just after Doonmore hotel at and head up boreen at B (L523 651) After passing through gate this stops at a wall with another gate and a short climb will lead you to the summit. From here walk to the cliffs for great views and a walk east will lead you to the short climb to Middle Quarter Linkback: mountainviews.ie/island/2211/comment/24000/
