Began this walk on a very mild Sunday (4th October 2009) at Oldbridge Grid Ref: O 158 019 A where there is room for about 10 cars to park. Headed south along an unnamed road which forms part of the Wicklow Way

Around 2km down the road the Wicklow Way turns west and then south, following this route until you come out approximately at Laragh East, shown clearly on OS Map No. 56 at Grid Ref: T 149 909 B

From here headed straight for the summit of Scarr. The ground has quite a noticeable track right up to the top of Scarr at Grid Ref: O 134 018 C Due to the shape of Scarr it is naturally exposed to the winds and can be extremely cold. From Scarr moved onto Kanturk, also known as Brown mountain via a highpoint ridge between Scarr and Kanturk at O 126 025 D. Kanturk summit is listed as O 125 035 E but there are several mounds making Kanturk one of the more unusual summits in Wicklow

From here the ground falls away steeply towards the Inchavore river, we took a path approximately north-east to a small clearing in the forestry, you can see this on the OS map but accurate Grid Ref is difficult to give, you will just have to judge for yourself where is best to cross the forestry

The walk back to the car at Oldbridge was relatively straightforward as we picked up the track that skirts along the edge of Lough Dan until you come to the main road again, this road will bring you past the scouts base and all the way back to your parking place.
