To visit Scarr Mountain we parked at the carpark above Brockagh Resource Centre T13981 96860 C in Laragh rather than risking your vehicle at the more exposed spots. Your trail starts right at the eastern edge of the carpark and moves in an anti-clockwise circuit. This is a lovely track. Make your way north eastwards up onto Paddock Hill. From up here the good views begin, so be sure to constantly look over your shoulders. There is a distinct trail all the way north up onto Scarr. Be well prepared since there is absolutely no shelter up on Scarr Mountain.

Take plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the 360 degree views. There are several options for varying the route from here. We headed on down the far side towards Kanturk and at the saddle took the track down left to the Glenmacnass Waterfall. (It is not much extra effort to visit Kanturk before returning to this saddle). At the far side of the carpark the water runs smooth and slow and it is a perfect spot to languish for a while and enjoy a bite to eat. Head across the Glenmacnass River on the stepping stones (carefully) and up through the northern edge of the woods. It is quite steep in here so you will need to zig-zag up. Near the top there is a indistinct path out to the right onto open ground. Make your way up the shoulder of the hill.

From there a trail leads back along the border of the woods on to an extraction road. You can use this road to bring you straight back to the carpark or be more adventurous and veer further west to the right of Mall Hill to reach Brockagh Mountain and then head south east on to Brockagh Mountain SE Top. From there just follow the trail back down to the carpark. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/210/comment/20530/
