Bump on the East Ridge
Short Summary created by Harry Goodman, simon3, Onzy  13 Jan 2016
Mount Leinster East Top is an uninspiring rise, just under 2k east of the main top. It is often confused with Black Rock Mountain, which is a further 2k east and is more defined.

There are a number of ways to reach the top. The most obvious is to use the service road leading to Mount Leinster itself before heading east over the bog to the East Top. The road begins at a viewing point at a height of 400m on the South Leinster Way at S81645 54640 starA, where there is parking. This route will take in the order of 2.5 hours.

A more interesting ascent starts at Ballycrystal S860 506 starB, heading north to Black Rock (599m; not a MV listed hill), then west over Mount Leinster East Top and onto the main top. A return trip is c. 4 hours, but probably an hour less if you forego the main top. Some parking is also available at S843 516 starC which provides a short, but steep ascent directly to the summit or an alternative point for a second car. Moats of Craan
by barryd  30 Dec 2011
This area is called 'The Moats of Craan' - from the various tors on this part of the ridge. There's an interesting area some way NNE of this, down the mountainside. It's the makings of a small coum and in fact there are two or three depressions, the largest of which is about 2-3 metres deep with streams running into it in winter. However the base seems to be rocky under the sedge and bog and the water dissapears to emerge further down hill. This area is called 'The Fleurs of Craan' - maybe Floors but pronounced Fleur. There seems to be some confusion between Black Rock mountain (599m) and Mount Leinster East Top (654m). Black Rock mountain is not available on the site and is the most easterly of the Blackstairs mountains. Perhaps it should be added as 599m meters certainly seems to qualify. csd's photos are of Black Rock mountain. The top photo shows Mount Leinster East Top in the middle ground. I trust this helps.

As it is a considerable distance from the main summit I prefer to call it Black Rock Mountain, as the O.S. did. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/184/comment/54/

The views from the top of Back Rock Mountain are almost as good as those from Mt Leinster itself. Makes an ideal stop on a circuit of Ballycrystal. Picture shows the summit cairn and the view towards Mt Leinster itself. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/184/comment/879/

Looking at Mount Leinster East Top from Mt. Leinster with Black Rock Mountain in the background as per the photo. Parts of this short route were particularly damp and boggy in contrast with most of the surrounding mountains. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/184/comment/1350/
