So named from a fancied resemblance according to Joyce. The mountain does indeed have the shape of a pig's back, with a curve before a steep downward drop on the S side. A quarry on the N side of the mountain was used to extract high-grade quartz sand for optical glass.   An Mhucais is the third highest mountain in the Derryveagh Mountains area and the 165th highest in Ireland.

This is not a climb for the faint hearted. I took the western approach taking the Falcarragh road from the main Letterkenny route. As I approached Moyra Glebe there is a small road to the right going through a farm. Go as far as the road will go and park. I set of in an Easterly direction gradually traversing the slope upwards until a large deep ravine halted my progress. At that point it was a case of zig zagging, sometimes at a 45 degree angle upwards to the summit. It has to be seen to be believed. It is like a stoney lunar landscape and the views are awesome. Be very careful as low cloud seems to come from nowhere therefore a good GPS with waypoints could prove invaluable.
There is a fantastic sense of achievement when you drive away as the mountain is visible from miles around. Its hard not to stop the car and look back with a sense of pride. Linkback: https://mountainviews.ie/summit/163/comment/2169/
