There is no doubt about the fact that a fine day is hugely helpful for those making movies designed to show off outdoor scenery. I suspect that that's why we have harvested so many top class pieces during the great summers of 2013 and 2014. But you need a lot more than a fine day to make a film of lasting value. Well Patrick has gathered the whole lot together in ACHILL ISLAND 2014. which tells the story of just one day on Achill in May 2014 when Patrick covered nearly all the high spots on the island. His first target was Slievemore. His route to the summit (starting on the Doogort side) involved various diversions and well as recording many sumptuous views. Anyone planning a walk on Slievemore has the luxury of yet another super movie to help with the preparations. During the bleak days after Christmas it's great to whet your appetite with summer movies: it's the hillwalking equivalent of looking at holiday brochures.
