Start from the roadside north of Kilcash at A (S317 288) A just in front of a farmyard.Park on the roadside, which is narrow, as best you can. Be careful not to obstruct the farm entrances. A rough signposted track leads off to the west, up the mountain. The route up the mountain is on a substantial track so you can't really go wrong, just follow it uphill with the forestry on your right.
At the top of this track is a concrete building with bits of decaying aerial near it. Go past this uphill to the north on a gradual slope to the summit area of Slievenamon. Head downhill north on steep ground before a gradual rise to the summit of Slievenamon North-West Top which is marked by a cairn of flat stones and what appears to be an excavated cist grave. Continue downhill east over rough ground before gaining an obvious forest edge track to the summit of Knockahunna then downhill south passing a windshaped tree before a gradual ascent to the summit cairn of Slievenamon North-East Top making a good circuit in this isolated mountain area. A sometimes faint track leads from its col with Slievenamon more or less all the way back to the main Slievenamon ascent track.
A couple of pics from a frigid hike up Slievenamon that continued on to the NE top, Sheegouna.
Amazing how even the most unremarkable hills are transformed by the white stuff. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1490/comment/19871/
A party of 6 hiked up Slievenamon and Sheegouna on the 27th June last. We followed a track previously uploaded from the website.
The forecast was poor when we left Dublin and was still heavily overcast when we reached Kilcash. We set off up the "tourist" route to Slievenamon, but the mists cleared at about 500metres and the Comeraghs, Knockmealdowns and the Galtees appeared in all their glory. Absolutely fantastic views, we reckoned we could see at least 5 counties from the summit of Slievenamon. There were a number of other hikers on the mountain, but we left them all behind as we headed towards Carrickabrock. The day was now fine and warm and a joy to be out on the hills. Our uploaded track was easy to follow and having reached Carrickabrock we then headed towards Sheegouna. However time was running out and we reluctantly contoured around the Eastern side of Slievenamon, joined up with the "tourist trail" and headed back to the cars at Kilcash. All in all a magnificent day, with many promises to return. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1490/comment/19601/

Easy bag from major top.

Crossed this minor top enroute from Slievenamon to Knockahunna back in 2013. There are a scattering of stones at the top which may be remains of a stone circle. It's a relatively easy descent NNE from it's larger neighbour but a more rough terrain crossing NNW to Knockahunna. Linkback: mountainviews.ie/summit/1490/comment/18295/
